The idea of body acceptance was foreign to me several months ago; introduced by the clinician who facilitated the group I was in during eating disorder treatment. I remember thinking body acceptance was something I would never understand, never be able to grasp because I was so set on self-hate. She discussed the concept of radical body acceptance and that is what stuck. Radical by definition means “new and very different from what is traditional or ordinary” (thanks, Webster) and I was determined to do what I could to embrace the radical acceptance of my body and myself. This blog is based on the idea of radical body acceptance through the inner workings of an eating disordered mind. While I don’t have all the answers and I don’t love and accept my body all the time, I am a work in progress…just like this blog.
A special thanks to my dietician, husband, friends, and previous treatment clinician for their encouragement and persistence about using my writing to help spread the body acceptance message.
